"Clown Shoe Pilot" (csp)

Mrs. Shoe Pilot & I were headed out to South Congress (in Austin) and got tagged on the way there. I was driving. We were in the far left of 3 lanes, and a girl was coming out of a driveway (or maybe a side street, not sure) turning right onto the roadway, and crossed 2.5 lanes. Since we were occupying the lane she was aiming for, we got hit.
She quickly realized her mistake and got back in the middle lane. Then we had to chase her down. I glued us to her bumper. My wife got out of the car at light (ill advised but she's an adult, so...) and told the driver to pull over so we could exchange information. The backseat passenger yelled at my wife to fuck off. They DID pull over at a Whataburger. In the time it took to drive to the Whataburger, they'd placed a call to her parents (maybe? or maybe the backseat passengers parents?) and asked that we go to their house around the corner to sort it out.
We followed them home. It was a nice new neighborhood in broad daylight so I figured we weren't likely to get murdered over a fender bender. The parents met us in the driveway. The truck was insured (*whew*) and they were cool about it. The driver disappeared into the house. It turns out she didn't have a driver's license or even a learner's permit.
I have a feeling I'm going to be suing someone in the near future, because the I have no faith that their insurance company is going to be cool about this at all. Luckily, I LIKE suing insurance companies. It's entertainment to me, and I'll probably get a big check for doing it.

Let's make a deal: if you get big money from the insurance company you have to supercharge the clown shoe.
Deal?

Wait. The parents let the kid on the road without any proper papers? Parenting fail!

Her parents let her drive with no licence or permit?! That's insane, my parents would've gone apeshit if I tried to do something like that.

The not only let her out, the SENT her out. She was supposed to be going to the store.
I think the driver is the baby mama of the insured's new grandchild. The last names didn't match up and they didn't know her birth date.

I'm 50/50 on whether you should file a police report.

Well I need to be careful when I move to Austin, don't I?

You NEED to file a police report on this one. Not to get her in trouble, but to document everything that has happened in a legal fashion.
There's too many ways this could go sideways for you if you didn't. Did it happen in Austin proper?

I called the cop shop a little while ago and I'm filling out the forms. Yes, Austin proper.

I'm 100% on the police report. Not something to screw around with.

Sheesh! I can tell you from personal experience the driving in Austin is getting nuts - I think its all the pot-smoking poser hipster wanna-be trust-funders. I live in the Houston area where driving is crazy but predictable - if you drive it like you stole it you will be fine. In Austin there's an increasingly unhealthy mix of California self-entitled yuppies in hybrids and e-cars, stoned locals, east-coast cabbie acolytes, southern NASCAR-nation bro-truck drivers, south-of-the-border (not being racist it is what it is) folks rushing to their second or third job, and damn college kids trying to look hip on mopeds. Only taking the beater when I go there from now on.

Glad you got a reply from the cops. First time I got hit in Austin ($9k repair bill) the cops were "too busy."
